Known for its rich history and for the Boston Red Sox, Massachusetts is full of culture, history, and plenty of things to do. Anyone interested in historic sites or Ivy League universities can easily find a few choices in Massachusetts, which is why I made my way to Cambridge. The fifth-largest city in Massachusetts, Cambridge offers top universities and a variety of activities and restaurants.
When I decided to go to Cambridge for the weekend, it was mostly due to the universities. However, when I arrived in Cambridge, I found a city that had so much more to offer than just top universities, and so my weekend adventure in Massachusetts began.
Adventure in Massachusetts
Where to Stay
One thing I love about Cambridge is that there are so many things to do and see in the area. From delicious restaurants to comfy hotels, the choices are endless in this beautiful city.
I ended up staying at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Cambridge, which was near the universities. The best part of this hotel is that it was near Lechmere station. There are several places to stay in and around Cambridge, such as the hotels in this guide. From Harvard Square Hotel to the Sheraton Commander Hotel, the hotels here will fit various needs.
What to Do
Once I settled into the hotel, I made my way to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, also known as MIT. As I took a tour of the campus, I admired the architecture of the building. Although MIT has very impressive buildings, they weren’t the only ones that left an impression on me. Throughout Cambridge, there are amazing historical buildings.
A few blocks away from MIT is the MIT Museum. This interactive museum exhibits kinetic sculptures, robots, and holograms. The best part is that it’s only $10 to get in, and children get in for $5.
My next stop was Harvard University. At first glance, the university looked like one in the U.K., but after walking around, I realized that the atmosphere and culture is much different from what you can find in the U.K.
The tour guide took me and a small group of prospective students on a tour of the university, and as we walked around, I realized that Harvard was its own small town with a gift shop at the corner and a few food spots. Taking a tour of Harvard was a great experience because of all the history that oozes through the walls of Harvard. We passed through Harvard Yard, which is one of the oldest parts of the campus. From sculptures to memorial halls, this part of Cambridge is full of history.
Around Harvard University, you’ll also find Harvard Art Museums, where admission costs $15. There’s also the Harvard Museum of Natural History, which is next to the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. For the price of admission to one museum, you’ll also get admission to the other museum during regular hours. General admission is $12.
Cambridge is an exciting city full of students and musicians that make the culture what it is today. It’s an area full of bookstores, coffee shops and historical buildings, which will leave you feeling like you’re in a different part of the world.
My weekend adventure in Massachusetts was fun and informative. I learned so much about the universities and also about things to do in this beautiful place.
