I’ve lived in Orlando for 7 years and throughout those 7 years, I never had the chance to explore Apopka. It wasn’t until I got my new job in the area that I decided to explore Apopka.
My exploration of the city took me to some pretty awesome places. From peacocks to miniatures, these are my top 5 places to visit.
1) Trader Mae’s
If you are a lover of antiques, then this is the place for you. With more than 50 stores inside the marketplace, Trader Mae’s has it all. Arcade games, 50’s barbies, old comics, vintage jewelry… These are just a few of the items in the marketplace.
Aside from all the antiques, they also have some great photo opportunities.
2) Magnolia Park
Have you ever seen peacocks roaming around in a park? If not, you might want to check this place out. This park is not only beautiful, but it also has peacocks roaming around. You do need to be careful when approaching these beautiful creatures, especially with the car as they seem to attack cars (I should know, one of them attacked my car).
3) Wildlife Drive
I could literally spend hours in this area. Not only do you get to see alligators and birds, but you get to drive around while doing so. Most of the nature stuff I’ve done in Orlando has been nature walks, but being that this is a wildlife drive, all I get to do is sit and drive. This is a very unique experience and one of my favorite ways to explore nature.
4) Deco Gallery
The Deco Gallery is a pretty cool place to visit, but what makes this place extra special is the Splendid China miniatures in the parking lot. These are salvaged relics from one of Florida’s strangest amusement parks back in the 90’s. Although they have been weather damaged, they are still nice to look at.
5) Florida Cactus
This place is ridiculously amazing! It has more than 200 succulents, cactus and other plants. At first, it might seem confusing where to even start, but once you find your way in, there is no stopping. This place has so much to see and buy!
I never knew there was so much to do in Apopka, but I am definitely glad I came across these places and can’t wait to see what else I discover.
