Things to do in Lakeland, FL

Sitting between Tampa and Orlando, Lakeland offers wonderful cultural attractions, beautiful landscapes and colorful murals. Although this city isn’t the number one destination in Central Florida, Lakeland is a great place to visit.

From beautiful gardens to historical sites, Lakeland has a variety of things to do.

If you find yourself going towards Tampa or Orlando, consider making a stop in Lakeland. This beautiful city has quite a few things to see, so let’s take a look at all the things you can do in Lakeland, FL.

Take a tour of the Safari Wilderness

Central Florida is a busy city full of traffic and people. Thankfully, The Safari Wilderness makes for a great getaway from the craziness of the city and provides hours of fun for the whole family. You can feed lemurs, take a Safari tour to see all the animals or take a camel expedition. You can check out my experience here.

Take in all the beauty at Hollis Garden

Lakeland FL

Another spot for a tranquil afternoon, the Hollis Garden has about10,000 flowers, ornamental shrubs, and native trees. This 1.2 acre site is not only free to get into, but it’s also located within Lake Mirror Park, which is just as nice and peaceful.

Enjoy some food and drinks at The Poor Porker

Lakeland FL

Located in the heart of downtown Lakeland, The Poor Porker offers a bohemian vibe with its open air cafe and funky furnishings. They also have quite a selection of food and drinks to enjoy in this unique place.

Find all the colorful murals

All throughout Lakeland, you can find colorful murals. You may need to drive around to find them all, but this list should help you.

Take in the creativity at the Polk Museum of Art

Ranked as the top art museums in the state of Florida, the Polk Museum of Art is a non-profit museum. This museum has a a few great exhibits and offers free admission to all who visit.

Visit the Dixieland Dragon

This may not seem like much, but the Dixieland Dragon is a 30-foot long dragon sculpture. Although it’s a quick stop attraction, it’s still impressive to see this dragon near residential homes.

Shop at the Antique Mall

If you are a huge fan of theme parks, then you may want to do some shopping at the Antique Mall. This store sells authentic theme park props and has some wonderful treasures to take a souvenirs.

Learn at the Florida Air Museum

Fans of air travel can now see beautiful aircrafts at the Florida Air Museum. Aside from the aircrafts, the museum also has a vast collection of artifacts covering the history of the first 100 years of flight.

Watch a movie at the Silver Moon Drive-In

The last drive-in theatre in Polk County, Silver Moon offers visitors a unique experience. Rather than going into a theater, you can stay in your vehicle to watch the movie. The admission is $6 for ages 10+ and $2 for ages 4-9.

Circle B Bar Reserve

If you’re looking for more of an outdoor experience, Circle B Bar Reserve has trails to satisfy your outdoor needs.

A beautiful nature reserve of 1,267 acres, Circle B Bar has plenty of wildlife for visitors to see. Aside from trails, there’s also picnic shelter for anyone wanting to have a nice picnic there.

Take a stroll around Munn Park Historic District

The Historic District in Lakeland is quite nice and full of restaurants and shops. This is also an area where you will find some of the murals and find some wonderful architecture.

Lakeland is known for their swans and you will end up finding a beautiful swan sculpture in Munn Park.

Lakeland, FL, may not be the number one destination, but any visitor that makes there way to this beautiful city will not be disappointed.
