As I mentioned in my The Beauty of Clearwater Beach post, I went on a weekend getaway to Clearwater. What I failed to mention is that I didn’t stay in Clearwater, but stayed at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa.
This place is far from being cheap, but as someone who loves to travel, I decided it was time to see what was so good about staying at this resort. Of course, some resorts have reward points, freebies and such, but the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa didn’t offer much.
They do have a membership they offer, but it’s not like the reward system hotels usually offer. There is a process to becoming a member and you cannot easily sign up for the reward program.
However, this place isn’t terribly bad. There were a few good benefits for staying at the resort.
Pros
– Front desk staff were friendly
– Housekeeping ladies were friendly
– The rooms were big and cozy
– My balcony had a view of the ocean
– The room was clean
– There was a water machine at every corner of the hotel, which is a plus for me
– Walking distance of downtown Safety Harbor, where they have small restaurants, bars and shops
-Right next to the Marina
-I got the newspaper the next morning
-Very elegant ballrooms
Cons
– Other than the little shops and bars, there is nothing else to do
– I had to walk in circles to get to my room and even got lost at some point
– The decor is outdated
– My balcony light did not work at night
– I was not offered to join a rewards program nor do they have any available
As you can see my pros list is longer than my cons list, so even though I wasn’t offered a rewards program, the service was still great. On top of that I was able to enjoy the marina right next door and took a walk down the streets of downtown Safety Harbor.
While in downtown, I was able to see a bit of art and ‘hole in the wall’ stores. I even tried a sandwich place that was absolutely delicious.
The Sandwich on Main, not only has craft beer and a variety of drinks, but their sandwiches are handcrafted and made to perfection. When you first see the sandwich, it looks like any other sandwich, but when you first take a bite of it, you are hooked. At least that’s what happened to me when I had their Blazing Buffalo Sandwich. This delight is a combination of Buffalo style chicken, blue cheese, shredded cheddar and ranch, an amazing sandwich that I highly recommend.
Once I finished my walk through downtown Safety Harbor, I made my way back to my room and enjoyed the ocean view.
Although Safety Harbor is unlike other resorts (I’ve only ever been to one other), this resort offers not only comfort, but a history behind it. It is also one of the oldest resorts in America, which is known as a haven, where “healing waters flow.” Overall, Safety Harbor Resort and Spa was a great experience and even though I feel like they could do a bit better, I would not trade this experience for anything in the world.
