This summer, I’ve been planning trips left and right to different cities in the U.S. After a few unsuccessful trips, I’ve decided to make my trip planning as organized as possible and share my experience planning a trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico. As the largest and most populous city in New Mexico, Albuquerque is also a city full of culture and heritage. There are plenty of things to do in Albuquerque, which is why planning the perfect trip is important.
Before Going to Albuquerque
There are a few things you need to know before going to Albuquerque. This city has a high elevation of over 5,000 feet and may cause anyone visiting Albuquerque to get tired quickly, due to the air being thinner at that elevation.
It may take your body a couple of days to adjust to the high elevation, which could cause altitude sickness. Keeping hydrated throughout your entire visit could help prevent sickness. Due to the altitude, the UV rays here are stronger and can cause sunburn more easily. Wearing sunscreen while vacationing in Albuquerque is a must, whether it’s summer or winter.
Where to Stay
Before I consider anything else, such as attractions or dining, I consider where I should stay. Albuquerque offers a variety of lodging options. From resorts to hostels, there’s plenty to choose from. When planning where to stay, I look at resources, such as this lodging and accommodations list, that provide excellent details and reviews.
This great list gives me an overview of hotels near the Albuquerque Zoo, which is a place I am considering visiting. This resource also provides reviews, important hotel information, prices, and local attractions, which makes my life easier when considering where to stay. So far, my picks are Hotel Andaluz, DoubleTree by Hilton, and the Hyatt Regency.
What to Do
In addition to going to the Albuquerque Zoo, I’m considering a plethora of activities in Albuquerque. From riding the Aerial Tramway to going to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Albuquerque offers something for all ages. Here’s what I’m planning to do in Albuquerque.
The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Museum
This museum has a collection that covers the history, culture, and art of the 19 pueblos of New Mexico. The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center’s collection includes thousands of rare artifacts. The center also has its own cafe, which is a full-service restaurant and bakery.
If you want to see more of Albuquerque, take the tram. This experience will take you above deep canyons and desert terrain. You’ll even get a panoramic view of the Rio Grande Valley and the Land of Enchantment.
Albucreepy Downtown Ghost Walk
I’ve heard of ghost tours in major cities like Savannah and St. Augustine, but never did I think that Albuquerque would have one, too. I’m considering joining this ghost walk to find out what makes Albuquerque creepy.
Though I don’t usually plan my trips, I’m excited to see my trip’s outcome. Naturally, the more I know about a city beforehand, the better my trip will be. If I hadn’t thought to plan this trip, I would never have known about the altitude. Planning a trip can be challenging, especially if you aren’t organized, but the results could lead to an amazing getaway.
