Whether you’re looking to visit or move to Tampa, Florida, this beautiful city is a must-see. Known for its tourist attractions, Tampa is quite a popular city in Florida. Every year, visitors make their way to Busch Gardens and the other tourist attractions that appeal to the public. However, if you’re looking for more than tourist attractions, then keep reading because I have a whole list of things to do in this beautiful city.

Is Tampa worth visiting?

The short answer: Yes.

If you love architecture, history, and a cosmopolitan city full of life and old buildings, Tampa is worth the visit. Every old building in Tampa is full of history and each has been brought to life. There are also many things to do in Tampa and a lot to see.

Aside from having plenty of things to do, Tampa also has beautiful, historical neighborhoods to live in. So If you’re looking for moving tips to this wonderful city, scroll down for more information.

Top Things to Do in Tampa, Florida

From the Gasparilla Pirate Festival to paddling along the Hillsborough River, there is no shortage of things to do in Tampa. This great city is perfect for all ages and anyone looking for a family-friendly environment.

Adjacent to the Hyde Park Neighborhood, You’ll find the Oxford Exchange. A European-inspired space featuring a restaurant, bookstore, coffeehouse, and shop with gifts. This is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but if you’re wanting to try another breakfast spot check out Lady & The Mug. This fairytale coffee shop is right in front of Oxford Exchange. This coffee shop has swing chairs and a very magical vibe. About two minutes away from the area is The Henry B. Plant Museum, which is housed in the south wing of Plant Hall (the original Tampa Bay Hotel) on the University of Tampa’s campus.

The Henry B. Plant Museum is quite a wonderful museum to visit. The architecture is unique from the rest of the buildings in Florida. It also features original opulent furnishings and artifacts from the hotel collected by Mr. and Mrs. Plant on several trips to Europe.

Near the area is the Hyde Park Neighborhood, which has the Hyde Park Village. Here you’ll find shops, restaurants, and experiences. A few places to check out in the Village are the Leafy Luv Affair, which is an awesome plant shop; Kittenish, a super cute shop founded by Jessie James Decker; The Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops; The CandlePour, where you can make candles; and Cake Drip, a dessert spot with an amazing Instagrammable experience.

If you find yourself in the downtown area and would like to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner with a view of the city, then head over to The Attic Cafe. Located on the fourth floor, this rooftop coffee shop and bar serves breakfast all day as well as lunch and dinner. They also have a great patio!

Tip: Get there early for the patio seating as it does get packed!

West of the Channel District is the Tampa Museum of Art. This museum exhibits modern and contemporary art, as well as Greek and Roman antiquities. Admission is $20 for adults, but if you’re a college student in Tampa, the admission is completely free. After the museum, check out the Tampa Theatre, which was built in 1926. This beautiful theatre is not only architecturally pleasing to look at, but the interior decor is gorgeous.

Tip: Every Thursday from 4 to 8 pm, the Tampa Museum of Art offers Art on the House, where visitors can choose how much they will pay for admission.

If you find yourself in Ybor City, then definitely check out all the boutiques and vintage shops on 7th avenue. Afterward, make your way to the Ybor City Museum to learn more about Ybor City’s rich history and heritage. The admission is only $4, and you can also take a Tour of the Casita. The tours are conducted every hour between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Another stop to make is to the Tabanero Cigars Factory. Here you can take a tour of the facility and learn how they make cigars. There are plenty of things to do in Ybor City, but if you find yourself there on a Saturday, Ybor City Market is a great spot to visit, where you’ll find live music with rows of vendors selling all sorts of items.

Where to Stay in Tampa

Tampa has some amazing, historical hotels to stay in. One of my personal favorites is Le Méridien Tampa, which resides in a historic courthouse. This gorgeous hotel has a very unique architecture with marble hallways and has the original oak doors from when the building was erected in 1905. For a waterfront hotel, then go to The Westin Tampa Waterside. This beautiful hotel offers a gorgeous view. Another good hotel to stay in is the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay. A four-star hotel near the airport, they have outdoor activities such as kayaks, wave runners, and paddleboards to explore the nearby waters.

Tampa has plenty to offer visitors, but if you’re planning to move to Tampa, there are a few things to know about this beautiful city.

Things to Know Before Moving to Tampa

Tampa is a wonderful city full of charming neighborhoods. However, when moving to a city, there are certain things to consider such as which neighborhood to live in, where to work, are there state income taxes, what are the school districts like, etc.

Like any city, Tampa does have its downfalls such as traffic congestion, commuting is not as easy, the weather can be bad during hurricane season, and it is humid. However, there are some pros to living in Tampa such as no state income tax to worry about, there are plenty of work opportunities, there are some great school districts, and a lot of outdoor activities. Also, if you’re a student attending a University in Tampa, you’ll get access to a bunch of museums for free.
