During these past few weeks, I haven’t had the chance to book in advance for the holidays. Thus causing my family and I to search for the best deals of all times at the last minute. Luckily, My dad gave me American Airlines reward miles to use for my traditional Christmas trip. The only problem with this is that you will get charged a fee for using the reward miles (A hefty one if you use one of their partners). At least that’s what happens when you use the American Airlines miles during high peak season.
Anyways, after searching for a few days for travel within our reward mile range, we ended up buying the tickets. Of course, it was in a place that we’ve been to so many times — Milan. This has only ever been done thanks to my family being in the travel industry, which I am very grateful for. Unfortunately, I do not get the same benefits I used to now that I am an adult. Hence, why I had to use reward miles.
Since I’ve been to Milan plenty of times and had my heart set on Budapest, I went looking through trains, airlines and every transportation available that would take me to Budapest from Milan. This is how my quest for cheaper transportation started. Everything seemed to be about $200+ until I found Rome2Rio.
Rome2Rio is similar to Google maps, except that I find it more travel friendly than Google. Rome2Rio gives you an estimate as to how much each ride will be. Just make sure to adjust the correct times to get the correct estimate.
The total of the trip, will come out to $177 with buses, trains and air. This is something I wouldn’t have been able to figure out on my own, especially in such a short time. Even though this is an estimate, it’s much better than the $230 I would have to spend and this estimate is also helpful in my search for the right airlines and the right trains.
Even though I have yet to finish booking my trip to Budapest, tools such as Rome2Rio make my life easier and gives me more access to cheaper transportation. I am excited that I will once again be traveling abroad, but I am hoping that I will be able to see Budapest and I may end up succeeding in my quest for cheap fare thanks to Rome2Rio.
