How to Get Into Vizcaya & Other Museums for Free

February 7, 2018 Hanny 3 min read No Comments

Last month, I took a trip down to Miami to explore my hometown. Although, I used to live there, I didn’t really do much exploring until I moved out. It seems that every time I go to Miami, I find out something new, such as how to get in to Vizcaya and other participating museums for free.

Museum Pass Program

Museum Pass

One of the best ways to get into the Museums for free is through the Museum Pass Program, which is offered by the Miami-Dade Public Library System. The way this program works is by simply using your Miami-Dade library card while checking out your pass to the participating museum of your choice.

Since my parents still live in Miami, I was able to use my mom’s library card to get my free pass to Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.  Not many people will have someone that lives in Miami, but you can always try to find a friendly local willing to help out! Perhaps you will bump into someone like me, who got two French tourists into Vizcaya (since I was traveling on my own and the pass is good for four!). If you do have friends or family in Miami, I definitely recommend checking this program out and the participating Museums.

A few things to mention about this pass:

  • Pass is good for up to a family of four.
  • Pass is good for one visit.
  • Pass is valid for seven days from the time of check out and will remain on the customer’s record for the duration of the seven day checkout.
  • Passes are available on a first come, first served basis

Culture Shock Miami Program

This program offers any student ages 13-22 tickets for $5 to some of the best performances and museums in Miami. I know this isn’t exactly free, but $5 is really cheap for some tickets that would normally cost $20 and up.

This program was around when I was still living in Miami and it was one of the best deals for students. For only $5, students are able to watch the Miami City Ballet perform at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, as well as get into Vizcaya.

Discounts

I know not everyone that reads the blog is a student, but not to worry, Miami offers plenty of discounts to visitors. Each museum has their own discounts. Some offer free entrance to Military and Seniors, others will offer discounts to AAA members and there are also group discounts.

If you do not fit any of these, there is always Groupon! Since I am a huge Groupon shopper, I tend to get $10 off of $11 or more. These Groupon discounts have allowed me to experience at least 3 different Museums for just $1 each. The best part is that these deals come in two, meaning you can take a friend or your spouse with you.

These are just a few ways you can save money to Museums and even get in for free. I’m always discovering new programs, so stay tuned to my Facebook or Instagram for more!
