A while back, I learned how to make Coconut Ladoo using milk and sugar from Priya founder of Cookilicious. Priya has some great recipes and took the time to teach attendees how to make some of these recipes, one of them being Coconut Ladoo. Before making these treats, I knew nothing about Ladoo, but after learning how to make them, I decided to get creative.
Ladoo or Laddu originates from India and can be made using a variety of ingredients. Common flours used to make these delightful treats are Chickpea flour, wheat semolina, and ground coconut. In India, this delicious treat is often prepared for festivals and events, such as weddings.
Many of the coconut recipes are made using condensed milk, but there are other alternatives like the one I learned from Cookilicious. However, I really wanted to know what it would taste like if I used Cacao condensed milk rather than just plain condensed milk.
The results were really good and the chocolate flavor is balanced out with the coconut flavor, so it doesn’t taste really chocolaty. The recipe is really simple and there is a lot of room for changes – whether you want to roast the coconut or change the nut to walnut, the choice is yours.
Coconut Almond Ladoo with Cacao Condensed Milk

Coconut Almond Ladoo with Cacao Condensed Milk
Equipment
- Pan
- nut grinder (if you need one)
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Desiccated Coconut
- 1/2 Cup Cacao Condensed Milk
- 1/2 Cup Chopped Almonds
- 1 tbsp Ghee (or oil)
Instructions
- In a pan, add the ghee (you can use oil as well). Make sure the pan is on medium. Then add the coconut and roast for 2-3 minutes until the moisture is gone.
- Add the Cacao Condensed Milk and mix well. Cook on medium-low heat. Keep mixing for about 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes, the mixture should be thick. Turn off the stove
- Add the chopped almonds to the mixture and mix well.
- Let the mixture cool down a bit. Once it has cooled down, grab a tbsp of the mixture and roll it into a ball.
- Roll the ladoo in dry desiccated coconut one by one to coat well
Making Ladoo is simple and you can make it in different ways. Not a fan of Coconut? Not a problem, as mentioned, there are plenty of different kinds of Ladoo recipes. You also do not have to add nuts, if you don’t want to. Some Ladoo recipes ask for cardamom, but I’m not a fan, so I remove the ingredient when I make them. This is such a simple treat and great for any last-minute dessert requests or cravings. These are also great for any event you may have.
